Amazon News: Publishing and British Links

Amazon, Amazon, do you know how not to make waves?  Two stories come to us from that corner of the Internet where items are sold like a really boring wild west market.

122 books will be published this fall by Amazon.com, both in print and electronic format, bypassing the traditional publishing houses that rule the book world like an iron fist rules a dick punching competition.  Will the publishing world strike back like the empire we know they are?  Or will it take a lone orphan living with his aunt and uncle to find the true way of the Force and rescue a hottie that he later finds out is his sister?  We may never know.  NYTimes

The British Library is being criticized for linking to the Amazon market place for book information in its online catalog.  Book sellers and libraries across the land are denouncing the once great king for promoting a giant and forgetting about all the little British ant hills.  May the fires of Arnethor and Bledewindlestick stoke their hearts and not their asses.  Low be unto thee who understands why I started talking like this. Seriously, folks are pissed.  Telegraph

Self Publishing Queen Sells Out: Good For Her

Fate (My Blood Approves, Book 2)
Can't fight fate...
Self-published author Amanda Hocking recently signed a book deal with St. Martin's Press for more than $2 million.  Hocking has already made around that much in her self publishing efforts, as we reported a while back.  She was made a media and indie publishing darling after the news was announced and I bet some out there are saying she sold out.  Screw'em.  You get paid, girl.

Plus, she already did her work.  She wrote, she marketed, she self-published.  She got paid.  Now, she gets paid without having to do all that work (beyond writing).  Good for her.  I hope everyone learns from this:  if you work long and hard and make a lot of money at it, big corporations will pay you.  The more you know.

Google Vs Apple Publishing: Let's Get It On!

The Google Story: For Google's 10th BirthdayApple iPod touch 32 GB (4th Generation) NEWEST MODEL
The goo vs the i: how do we contain the rage?

Google announced today that they will attempt to undercut Apple's publishing contract by 20%.  At least that's what I got from this article in USA Today.  The Internet giant is poising to face off against the computer giant in a war of the publishing rights price points.  Apple, currently taking about 30% from publishers on their App Store, can kiss my butt if they think they are getting any more of my money.  Google announced that the program "One Pass" will take about 10% of from publishers, a move that I think is great because they have given me lots of cool toys over the years and never really asked for money.  Add to that their Android market does not tell me what is good for me and the devices I paid good money for and I think I have a hat for this ring.

Who will win this War of Fruity Aggression?  Only time will tell.
