Library Book and Tech News: Cyber-Book-a-Tron

I am a librarian from the future.  I am sent from the future to save you, the librarian who will save us from the coming information apocalypse.  Come with me if you want to read.

Netflix announced that it will not pursue the separation of its DVD and streaming services.  Customers of Netflix have already quit or made their decisions.  NYTimes

Charlaine Harris, who already announced her True Blood-based Sookie Sackhouse vampire novel series is almost over, will be writing a graphic novel.  The new series will be based on supernatural stuff and probably be better than the AMC TV series that it was based on.  USAToday

After DC made an exclusive deal with Amazon for their graphic novels, the bookchain Barnes and Noble removed around 100 graphic novels from their shelves.  The break up is set to be a sad one, with B&N sitting alone crying and burning old pictures of Superman.  WSJ

Italian Wikipedia is no more due to an Italian law that states that if a person has a problem with information shown on any web content, a statement of contradiction must be added to the page in a unaltered form whether it is true or not.  As Wikipedia is constantly updated, this negates their business model.  There goes my Italian Stallion page.  wikimedia via boingboing

DC Goes Back to the Beginning

75 Years Of DC Comics: The Art Of Modern MythmakingDC Comics has announced that they are starting over the numbered order on all their main superhero titles in September.  So, if you know a dumbass with some money you can sell Action Comics #1 all over again.

DC also stated that beginning with the renumbering, the comics will also be allowed digitally the same day.  As my local comic book retailer said, "Fuck that."  Personally, I read comics for the following reasons: 1) I like the stories and heroes, 2) I like the art, 3) I like the obsessive collecting instinct, not necessarily in that order.  Digital comics may give the story, but the art never translates on a screen and clicking a mouse or touchscreen does not equal treasure hunting through multiple boxes.

Also, fun fact:  "DC" stands for "Detective Comics."  Every time I hear someone say DC Comics, even though that's the companies name, I snicker with the joy that only redundancy can bring.  [New York Times]

DC Shuts Down Online Comments: I Love It when Nerds Get Too Serious

DC Comics: The 75th Anniversary Poster BookSo who would win in a race, the Flash or Superman?  If you answered "Who gives a bright and shiny hotdog?" then this is not for you.  DC Comics had to shut down its online message boards last week because a bunch of nerds got into a huge flame war trying to answer this very question, Comics Alliance reports.

Hi.  I would like to talk to you a moment about an epidemic that does not get much attention:  Nerd Rage.  Nerd Rage is the primary reaction when something of no real significance becomes very important to an individual or group.  Nerd Rage can infect anyone at anytime, from the aforementioned "Superman Vs Flash" to your grandmother debating with her friends over hand or machine stitching for quilts.  Please be aware of this, as it can become quite contagious.  Thank you.

Also, the Flash would kick the crap out of Superman in a footrace.  Otherwise, why is he called "The Flash"?  He is supposed to be faster than anything else.  Otherwise he's be "The Shine" or "The Glow" or "The Quick Guy That Can Not Beat Superman".
