Local Teenager Will Talk about The Avengers with Anyone

With the release and success of this weekend’s “The Avengers,” local teenager Jimmy Cantewaller has come back to the reference desk at the Banned Library. Cantewaller will discuss the superhero film with anyone willing to talk about it as long as they can stand it.

After the success of this year’s earlier campaign to talk about Mass Effect 3 with anyone, Cantewaller, 14, returned to the reference desk today to spread the word about The Avengers while he waited for his mom to pick him up.
“It was so cool how they got Iron Man to fly around like that, you know Robert Downey, Jr. used to do drugs? I think my favorite was the time Loki was all ‘I’m gonna get you all cause you suck, and Hulk was just ‘nuh-uh’ and just beat the crap out of everybody. It was really cool.”
Various patrons humored Cantewaller, listening to his account of various scenes of the movie while they waited for assistance with their reference questions. When no patron was available, library staff was eager to point out the library’s graphic novel section to the juvenile.
“Look, I really liked that movie,” Evan Banned, director, said, “But if I hear that kid say ‘Hulk Smash’ one more time I might throw him off the balcony. I keep telling him he should check out the Avengers comics we have downstairs, but he just does not seem interested. I’m not sure the poor kid can read.”
Cantewaller says he looks forward to the rest of the summer when the Batman will drive his car and Spider-Man will jump all over New York.

Library of Congress Parks It in New Hampshire

The Library of Congress has a new rolling exhibit that settled in Concord, NH in front of the state house.  The exhibit, entitled "Gateway to Knowledge," contains reproductions of the Declaration of Independence, the first appearances of Spider-Man, the Gutenberg Bible, and others.  The exhibit is currently on a 90 city tour and is free to the public.

Wow, that's quite a collection of fake artifacts.  I am sure Marvel is excited to have their comics sitting next to the Declaration of Independence like that.  Of course when I think historical documents, I go straight from Magna Carta to Superman, but that's just me.

Also, think about how jazzed Steve "The Gute" Gutenberg is that someone wrote a bible based on his storied career.

Spider-man Sells for Over $1 Million

Spider-Man - The High Definition Trilogy (Spider-Man / Spider-Man 2 / Spider-Man 3) [Blu-ray] A copy of Amazing Fantasy #15, the first appearance of Spider-Man, sold this week for over $1 million according to The Toronto Sun.  You hear that folks, hang onto your 60 year old really rare comics and you might get some coin.  I mean it, remember that Superman (vol. 2) #75 Death of Superman that is holding up your end table?  In 20 years that could be worth, I dunno... dollars, man.

The most messed up part of this?  Because of inflation, $1 million to day was worth 12 cents in 1961 dollars.  Economy, man.  Dude just wants to read a damn comic book.
