Hanging Quilts

The town of Bannville has a long and interesting past. I have told you about Fire Day and Viper Day, but there are many other days lost in time where many sordid things happened. Like how our town was founded. If you go by the official history, two brothers, Stephen and Thomas Banned, came down into the piney woods. They found a small community called Jeff’s Bluff and through cunning and entrepreneurship in the logging industry brought civilization to the land.

Another tale not on the books goes that the brothers got the land when Jeff had an unfortunate accident with an axe. And by accident I mean he fell on it. Repeatedly. Off the top of the bluff that bears his name. Could happen to anybody.

Patron Claims Internet Really Big For Such a Small Machine

A local Bannville library patron was amazed at the amount of connectivity available at the public library.  Celia Murphy, 58, was astonished today to learn the whole of the Internet could be found on a computer.
"It's just crazy," Murphy said, "I can do so much on such a little machine.  I'm so proud of our library for getting this computer.  I'm gonna tell all my friends about this."
Librarians further astonished Murphy by showing her how to search for information using the search engine Google.  Murphy cackled with glee as she typed various words into the keyword one by one.

History of the Banned Library

Welcome back to the Banned Library, the centerpiece of the town square of Bannville, MS, a small town nestled deep in the piney woods of Mississippi.

The creation of the Geraldine Godson Banned Memorial Library and Farmer’s Market was based on a bet.  Books as a whole were not easy to come by to the gentle loggers that founded the area, so when Geraldine Godson bet Theodore "Ted" Banned a library could not only thrive in the fledgling town of Bannville but become a cultural Mecca that would draw scholars from miles around, Ted scoffed.  The bet was simple:  Geraldine could found the library with money given by the Banned family and at least three fourths of the population must have a library card at the end of three months (about 300 counting county and city population).  If she won, Geraldine could keep the library with additional funds given by the Banned Family for all time.  If he won, Geraldine would marry Ted.

With the terms agreed, the library was opened on the August 7th, 1879, just in time for school to start.
